IELTS has widespread acceptance in numerous countries, mainly Canada, UK, USA, Australia, and New Zealand, where it is one of the main requirements for migration and abroad studies. Additionally, more than 10,000 academic institutions, immigration authorities, and employers, including renowned institutions in the USA, acknowledge the IELTS scores.

Each correct answer is one mark, and the scores, ranging from 0 to 40, are converted to the IELTS 9-band scale. The results are divided into whole and half bands.
- READING
The IELTS Reading test assesses various reading skills, and needs quick and efficient reading while managing time effectively. It consists of three passages and questions, with differences between the Academic and General Training versions.
The test evaluates your comprehension and ability to follow what is written in English texts, showcasing your proficiency in understanding written information.
In Academic Reading, you engage with lengthy texts suitable for university-level i.e. undergraduate or postgraduate studies, while General Training Reading focuses on everyday English sources.
The test duration is 60 minutes with 40 questions, and scores are converted to the IELTS 9-band scale.
- WRITING
The IELTS Writing test is designed to measure your proficiency in various elements of writing. It assesses your ability to provide appropriate responses, effectively organize your ideas, and demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary and accurate grammar usage.
Task achievement assesses your ability to comprehend the given prompt and effectively address the requirements. By showcasing a clear understanding of the task, organizing your thoughts coherently, and staying on topic, you demonstrate your proficiency in fulfilling the assigned writing task.
Coherence and cohesion play a vital role in conveying your message effectively. Through well-structured paragraphs, logical progression of ideas, and cohesive devices such as transitions and linking words, you create a smooth and engaging flow, captivating your readers and showcasing your ability to communicate ideas effortlessly.
IELTS evaluates your grammatical range and accuracy, emphasizing your ability to use a variety of sentence structures, tenses, and grammatical forms. By demonstrating a solid command of grammar, you not only enhance the clarity and precision of your writing but also showcase your language proficiency
Lexical resource evaluates your ability to effectively select and employ a wide range of words, phrases, and idiomatic expressions. By incorporating diverse vocabulary into your writing, you add depth, nuance, and creativity, captivating your readers and showcasing your language proficiency.
In the Academic Writing section, you will be presented with a graph, table, chart, or diagram in Task 1, where you describe or summarize the information. Task 2 requires you to write an essay in response to a given point of view — it can vary from solving a problem or participate in an argument.
In the General Training Writing section, you will write a letter in Task 1 and an essay in Task 2, both based on topics of general interest. Each section has a time limit of 60 minutes, with Task 2 carrying twice the weightage of Task 1 in the scoring process.
Your writing test will be evaluated by certified IELTS examiners, and scores will be reported in whole and half bands.
- SPEAKING
During the IELTS Speaking test, you will interact with a certified examiner, simulating real-life situations. The test will be recorded and may include different accents. It’s important to remain relaxed and speak naturally throughout the test.
The Speaking test evaluates various skills, such as expressing opinions, providing information on everyday topics, and effective communication. The examiner assesses your ability to speak at length about a given topic, organize ideas coherently, justify opinions, and analyze issues.
The Speaking test comprises three parts.
The journey begins with a friendly introduction. The examiner will ask you questions about yourself, your interests, hobbies, and everyday experiences. This part is designed to help you ease into the test and set a comfortable rapport with the examiner.
In this part, you’ll be given a topic and have one minute to prepare before speaking for up to two minutes. Organize your thoughts and deliver a captivating monologue that showcases your ability to speak at length, provide appropriate details, and express yourself fluently.
The final part of the Speaking test is an extension of the previous discussion. The examiner will ask you follow-up questions and encourage you to explore different aspects.
The IELTS Speaking test lasts approximately 11–14 minutes. Certified examiners evaluate your performance based on criteria like fluency and coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range & Accuracy and Pronunciation. Scores are reported in whole and half bands.
