Listening Section

The listening section checks your ability to follow the conversation and draw a conclusion. In a listening test, you will have to listen to an audio and interpret your answers based on the given questions. There are 40 questions which you need to answer in 30 minutes.

There are different types of questions in these sections, like diagram labelling, summary completion, matching, etc. During the test, 4 different types of recordings are played: –

- Recording 1: – In this recording, there is a conversation between two people on a general topic regarding daily happenings.
- Recording 2: – In this recording, a monologue is played by a native speaker on a social subject.
- Recording 3: – A group discussion occurring among 2 people on an educational topic is given.
- Recording 4: – An academic subject speech of an English speaker will be given here.

Reading Section

In the reading section, there are 60 minutes, and you need to answer 40 questions. The reading section assesses how good you are at reading passages, locating main ideas, understanding logical arguments and recognising the writer’s opinion and purpose.

In this section, the questions are in varied forms like matching headings, locating information, note completion, table completion, etc. There are 3 sections in the test. In 1st section, there is a passage of 500-700 words. In the second section, there is a passage with questions that test your reading ability. In the 3rd section, there is a complex reading passage with higher difficulty.

Writing Section

The writing test checks how well you can communicate ideas in English. There are two tasks in this section. Task 1 is different for the Academic and General modules, whereas Task 2 is quite similar for both. In Academic Task 1, you need to write a 150-word essay as a response to a visual graphic. In General Task 1, you have to write 150 words of an essay in the form of a letter. Task 2 requires you to write a 250-word formal essay explaining an opinion and justifying it.

Speaking Section

In a speaking test, you have to face an interview with a certified examiner. This section has three parts, which include the Introduction, the cue card, and the follow-up discussion. In the introduction part, you have to give your introduction and answer some questions asked. In the cue card section, you have to speak about a topic. The follow-up section consists of answering questions related to the topic.
