Quick answer
In Dubai the university, not an embassy, is at the centre of your visa. First shortlist universities licensed in the UAE and apply with your transcripts and passport. Once you accept an offer, the university becomes your sponsor and files your student residence visa with the immigration authority, supported by a letter stating your course duration. After you arrive, you complete a medical fitness test, arrange health insurance and apply for your Emirates ID. Our Dubai study visa requirements and process guide covers each step in detail.
What we handle
Because the university sponsors you, the Dubai student visa is only as good as the admission behind it. So we spend most of our effort on choosing the right institution and getting its paperwork right.
Families often hear that Dubai is quick and simple. The residency step itself can be quick, but the choice of university is where a plan succeeds or fails: a programme that does not fit your career, an offer with unclear refund terms, or an institution whose licence nobody checked. Our Dubai student visa consultants slow that part down on purpose, so the fast part stays fast.
We check how each option is licensed, whether by the federal Ministry or by the KHDA for Dubai's free zones, before it goes on your list, and match courses to your marks and budget. Graduates of free zone institutions can have their degrees certified by the KHDA, which matters when you apply for jobs.
Each university sets its own English entry rule. We prepare your applications and, if you need a score, plan it with our IELTS or PTE coaching.
We read the offer with you, list what you pay and when, and send the university the passport copy, photo and documents it needs to sponsor your visa. If anything in the offer is unclear, such as the deposit, a conditional requirement or the start date, we ask the university in writing before you pay.
Tuition, housing, insurance, the medical test, the Emirates ID and the residence permit fees, set out in writing so your family sees the full first year cost.
What to carry, where the medical test and Emirates ID fit in, and how to keep your residency valid while you study. We also walk you through health insurance, which the residence permit requires, so you are not choosing a plan in a hurry after landing.
We help you keep the course duration letter current with the university and think early about work, further study or the golden visa route for top graduates.
Your file
GDRFA Dubai lists the core documents for a student residence permit. Your university adds its own admission checklist on top, so treat this as the base set, not the full list. Some items you send before you travel, and some, like the medical test and the Emirates ID, are completed after you land.
| Document | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Passport copy | Required for the residence permit, and the university needs it to start sponsorship. Check it is valid well beyond your first year. |
| Recent colour photo on a white background | GDRFA asks for it with the residence permit application. |
| Offer letter from a licensed university | Your sponsor. The institution must be licensed in the UAE and approved by the relevant education authority. |
| University certificate stating your course duration | The UAE asks students for a letter from the institution specifying how long the study lasts. |
| Academic transcripts and certificates | The basis of your admission; keep originals and copies ready for the university. |
| English test score or the university's alternative | Each university sets its own entry requirement for English. |
| Health insurance | A listed requirement for the student residence permit in Dubai. |
| Medical fitness test result | Required for residence visa applicants aged 18 and above, completed in the UAE. |
| Emirates ID application receipt | You apply for the Emirates ID, after a security check, as part of the residency process. |
For the complete checklist, see our Dubai study visa document list.
Two habits save most students a delay. Keep scanned copies of every page of your passport, your photo and your marksheets in one folder, because the university will ask for them more than once. And read your offer letter for deposit, refund and deferral terms before you pay anything, since those are set by the university, not by the immigration authority.
Before you apply
Five facts from official UAE sources at the time of writing that shape every Dubai plan we make.
| Topic | What applies |
|---|---|
| Intakes | September and January are the main intakes, and some universities offer more start dates through the year. |
| Who sponsors you | Your accredited university or college, or a parent who is a UAE resident. The university acts as host and guarantor. |
| Work while studying | Not included in the student residence permit. An employer can apply for a student training and employment permit, valid for three months. |
| Residency fees | GDRFA Dubai lists AED 200 for the permit itself, plus small service charges and an in-country fee. The listed processing time for this service is 48 hours. |
| After graduating | Top university students can qualify for a 10 year golden visa with certificates of excellence and recommendation letters. When a residence permit ends or is cancelled, Dubai allows a 60 day grace period to stay. |
Studying in Dubai is closer to home than most destinations, but it is not a shortcut. The admission decides everything that follows, so we would rather spend an extra week checking a university than rush you into an offer. Dubai suits you if you want an internationally taught degree close to home, a shorter flight for family visits, and a course that is offered by a licensed campus there. It suits you less if the exact course you want is only available at a campus whose licence you cannot confirm. Gujarat offices
There is no Dubai embassy visit in this process, so everything from shortlisting to the arrival checklist happens at the office nearest you.
Every Gujarat office follows the same checklist: confirm the licence, cost the first year, prepare the sponsorship documents, and brief you on the medical test and Emirates ID before you fly. Choose the office that is easiest for you and your parents to reach, since most families come in together for the budget conversation.

Either the accredited university or college you study at, or a parent who lives in the UAE. Most students from Gujarat are sponsored by their university, which acts as host and guarantor for the student residence permit. The university also issues the letter stating your course duration, which the UAE asks for with the application.
Yes, if you are 18 or older. The UAE asks residence visa applicants aged 18 and above to pass a medical fitness test and a security check and to apply for an Emirates ID. The test is done in the UAE as part of the residency process, so keep the first days after arrival free for it and for the Emirates ID appointment.
The student residence permit itself does not include permission to work. To work, your employer applies for a student training and employment permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, which is valid for three months at a time. Plan your budget without counting on part-time income, and treat any work you find as a bonus rather than a way to pay fees.
Ask how it is licensed. Universities in Dubai's free zones, such as Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park, are regulated by the KHDA, which keeps a public directory. The GDRFA also requires the institution to be licensed and approved by the Ministry of Education or the competent education authority before it can sponsor a student.
GDRFA Dubai lists a base fee of AED 200 for a student residence permit, plus smaller service charges and an in-country fee, at the time of writing. Tuition, health insurance, the medical test and the Emirates ID are separate. Our Dubai student visa fees and cost guide puts every expense in one place.
The UAE allows family members of foreign students at its universities to stay in the country, as long as the student can afford suitable housing. Conditions such as housing and the sponsor's eligibility apply, so ask us to check the current rules for your case before you plan around it.
