Apply for your APS certificate first, since its timing depends on how fast your college replies. Then apply to universities, accept your admission, open and fund a blocked account (EUR 11,904 for one year at the time of writing) and buy health insurance from your arrival date. Next, upload your application on the Consular Services Portal, choosing the Consulate General in Mumbai, and book the on-site appointment from the link you receive. How we help with Germany
Most delays in a German application are not about marks. They come from steps done in the wrong order or documents that do not match. Our job is to keep every piece lined up with the next one.
We help you register with APS India, prepare the copies it asks for and warn your college that APS may write to it. APS does not accept replies from Gmail and similar addresses, so the reply must come from an official email.
We match courses to your degree and check the language level each one asks for. For degree studies the missions generally expect C1, proven by a recognised certificate such as IELTS or Goethe-Institut. Our IELTS coaching runs alongside your applications.

For the consulate
The German missions in India publish a study visa checklist. Bring originals of everything you upload: copies certified by Indian authorities or notaries are not accepted.
Answer the portal questionnaire truthfully, because it decides your visa sub-type. The missions say a sub-type cannot be changed later without deleting the application and starting again.

| Blocked account confirmation | Or another accepted proof of funds, such as a formal obligation letter or a German or EU scholarship. |
| Health insurance certificate | Statutory or private cover from your intended date of arrival. Your visa start date follows it. |
| Motivation letter and CV | Written in English or German; the CV in table form, listing all your training and activities. |
| Proof of tuition, if your university charges it | For private universities, an invoice and proof that you paid the first year or a substantial deposit. |
Plan ahead
These points come from the German missions in India and APS India at the time of writing. Amounts are revised from time to time, so confirm them on the official sites before you pay.

The German Consulate General in Mumbai, whose district includes Gujarat. You select it yourself on the Consular Services Portal, and an application sent to the wrong mission can be rejected. Students who need an APS certificate usually give documents and biometrics at a VFS Global centre rather than travelling to Mumbai.
Almost always, if your school or university qualifications are from India. The German missions list a few exemptions, such as PhD applicants and students on German or EU public scholarships. At the time of writing, the German missions in India ask for EUR 11,904 for the first year, with a blocking confirmation that no more than EUR 992 can be withdrawn each month. A formal obligation letter from a sponsor in Germany or a qualifying scholarship can be used instead.
Not for the visa application. The German missions in India say Duolingo, Pearson PTE and TOEFL home edition tests are not recognised for applications in India. Recognised certificates include Goethe-Institut, ÖSD and telc for German, and IELTS for English.
The German missions say national visa processing may take several months, and they do not answer status enquiries in the first three months after you file. Plan backwards from your semester and start APS about a year ahead.
You can submit a new application at any time, with no fixed waiting period, once you have fixed what the refusal letter points to. Remonstration is no longer available. The other route is a lawsuit at the Administrative Court Berlin within one month of receiving the letter.
