IELTS ACADEMIC WRITING
The writing task is divided into 2 sections, Task 1 and Task 2. The total time for both the tasks is 60 minutes. You should ideally try and write Task 1 as fast as possible, and give more time to writing Task 2
Task 1: You are asked to describe some visual information such as a (graph/table/chart etc.) in your own words. The minimum word limit is 150 words and has to be completed in 20 minutes.
Task 2: It is an essay. The minimum word limit is 250 words and has to be completed in 40 minutes. There is more weightage in this task which is double as much of the writing band score.
How are the Writing tasks marked?
Both the tasks are assessed independently. Scores are given in bands. The task responses are marked on 4 criteria.

Writing Structure & Format
Be it the Task 1 or Task 2 each has a specified structure and format. This is usually a bone of contention. You will be taught the proper structure and format to follow for the exam. The correct structure and format are very important for your marking criteria. Task 1 differs from Task 2, as far as the structure and format is concerned.
Task 2 comprises of 7 different types of essays, and for every essay there is a format which you need to follow. Once you have mastered these formats for these essays, you have won half the battle.
Lexical Resource
It is another name for Vocabulary. Most of the time students’ struggle with insufficient vocabulary, especially those whose mother-tongue is not English. But you don’t have to be worried about how you are going to learn enough vocabulary. Body Paragraphs
Before writing the body paragraphs it is important to make an outline, in order to write a crisp essay. Once you have understood the format perfectly, it will be very easy for you to write the body paragraphs. Depending on the type of question asked you would accordingly write the body parts.
But taking a look at Task 1, you would be writing the main details paragraphs. It is very simple if you follow exactly what is being explained to you.
Conclusion
Writing a Conclusion is not as hard as it may seem. Again, based on the type of question, you would be required to write the summary, which would be the gist of the body paragraphs.
