Quick Answer to MBA in Canada for Indian Students 2027
An MBA in Canada for Indian students suits professionals with at least two years of full time work: Rotman, Ivey, Schulich, Sauder and McGill all set two years as the minimum and most want a GMAT or GRE score. International tuition at these schools runs from CAD 108,500 to an estimated CAD 144,770 at the time of writing. For fall 2027 entry, aim for the December and January rounds. MBA students at public universities need no PAL and can apply for a PGWP of up to three years after a programme of at least eight months.
"I have two years in a Bangalore IT firm and a decent GMAT. Is Canada the right place for my MBA, or am I wasting a crore?" That is the question I hear most from working professionals who walk into our counselling rooms in Gujarat. It is fair, because an MBA in Canada for Indian students is one of the most expensive degrees you can choose, and also one of the few that comes with a three year work permit at the end.
In this guide I will give you what I would give you across the table: fees and eligibility at five well known business schools, every 2027 application round we could confirm, a worked budget with clearly labelled numbers, the visa and work rules as IRCC states them today, and an honest view on whether an MBA or a cheaper alternative suits your profile. Every figure was checked on the school's own website or on canada.ca at the time of writing, so please confirm it on the official page before you pay anything.
If you would like one person to run this plan with you, a Canada student visa consultant can turn it into a personal shortlist, essay plan and funds file.
Is an MBA in Canada for Indian Students Worth It in 2027?
It can be, for the right profile. Three things make an MBA in Canada for Indian students different from a generic master's abroad.
- It is a graduate degree, so the PGWP rules are friendly. IRCC says master's graduates can apply for a three year post graduation work permit as long as the programme was at least eight months long, and there is no field of study requirement for master's degrees.
- You skip the provincial attestation letter. Since 1 January 2026, students in degree granting master's or doctoral programmes at public institutions do not need a PAL.
- Classes are full of experienced professionals. Every school in our table below asks for real work experience, so your batchmates are managers, engineers and analysts, not fresh graduates.
The flip side is cost. An MBA in Canada for Indian students now carries tuition above CAD 100,000 at most top schools, and nothing guarantees a job. Go in with a clear post MBA role in mind and you will use the degree well. Go in to "figure things out" and it becomes a very costly gap year.

MBA in Canada for Indian Students: Fees and Eligibility at Five Schools
These five programmes come up in almost every shortlist we build for an MBA in Canada for Indian students. For a wider list beyond business schools, see our guide to the top universities in Canada for Indian students. All tuition figures below are international fees published by each school at the time of writing and exclude living costs.
| School and programme | Length and start | Work experience | GMAT or GRE | International tuition (at the time of writing) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rotman, University of Toronto: Full-Time MBA | Two years with a four month paid internship term; fall start | Minimum two years full time | Required; exemptions for some designations, such as CFA Level II passed | Estimated academic fees CAD 144,770, excluding incidental and ancillary fees |
| Ivey, Western University: MBA | 12 months; starts in January | Two to 10 years full time | Required; a pre-assessment can tell you if you qualify for an exemption | CAD 136,310 for the 2027 programme, plus mandatory extras such as UHIP |
| Schulich, York University: Full-Time MBA | 16 to 20 months; September or January start | Minimum two years relevant post degree experience | Required | CAD 31,005 per term; estimated programme total CAD 124,019 |
| Sauder, UBC: UBC MBA | 16 months; starts every August | Minimum two years after your bachelor's; three to five years for a competitive edge | Required; a waiver process exists | CAD 112,758, subject to UBC Board approval |
| Desautels, McGill University: MBA | Up to 16 months; fall start only | Minimum two years relevant full time, after your degree | Required; McGill states no waivers are granted | CAD 108,500 for the Fall 2027 entering class |
Read the table the way an admissions officer would. Every one of these programmes treats two years of full time work as the floor, not the target. Sauder says outright that three to five years gives you a competitive edge. If you are a final year B.Com or B.Tech student, an MBA in Canada for Indian students is not your next step yet.
Eligibility Beyond the Table: Work Experience, GMAT and Your Degree
Your three year degree. This is where Indian applicants get caught out. Ivey states that three year degrees are accepted, and Sauder accepts a three or four year bachelor's with a B+ average. Schulich says applicants with three year degrees may be considered with one extra year of work experience. Rotman asks for a recognised four year degree or its equivalent. If you hold a B.Com, B.Sc or BBA, check this line on every programme page before you pay a single application fee.
GMAT or GRE. For an MBA in Canada for Indian students, all five schools want a score from most applicants. Sauder lists a minimum of 515 on the GMAT Focus Edition or 155 on each GRE section, and 605 or more on GMAT Focus for a competitive edge. Rotman encourages at least 525 on GMAT Focus. If you are unsure whether you need a test at all for other courses, read our explainer on is GRE mandatory for studying abroad.
English. Expect IELTS Academic 7.0 overall at these schools. Ivey asks for at least 7 in each band, and Schulich asks for 7.0 overall with no band below 6.5.
The mistake we see most often in MBA in Canada for Indian students files is a candidate with 18 months of experience applying in Round 1, hoping the school will overlook the gap. It rarely works. Wait one more year, sharpen your story and apply with confidence.

MBA in Canada for Indian Students: 2027 Intakes and Application Rounds
Most programmes start in August or September, so the main 2027 entry for an MBA in Canada for Indian students is fall 2027. Here are the international deadlines we confirmed, in date order. Rounds that have already passed are left out.
- 6 October 2026: Sauder Round 1, with decisions by 4 December 2026.
- 21 October 2026: Schulich Round 1 for September 2027.
- 11 November 2026: Rotman Round 2.
- 15 November 2026: McGill first deadline.
- 8 January 2027: Sauder Round 2, which Sauder calls the ideal deadline for international applicants because of visa timelines.
- 13 to 20 January 2027: Rotman Round 3 (13 January), McGill second deadline (15 January) and Schulich Round 2 (20 January). Schulich strongly encourages international candidates to apply by Round 2 for scholarships and study permit time.
- 2 to 15 March 2027: final international rounds at Sauder (2 March), Schulich (3 March) and McGill (15 March), plus Rotman Round 4 (10 March).
- 5 May 2027: Rotman final round. Possible on paper, but tight for a study permit.
What about Ivey? Ivey's MBA starts in January. Its page says the January 2027 intake is now closed for applicants on a study visa, so a student reading this today should plan for January 2028 and watch Ivey's admissions page for those rounds.
My advice is simple. Treat December and January as your real deadline for an MBA in Canada for Indian students. Earlier rounds give you better odds of scholarships, and Rotman says roughly one third of its students receive entrance awards, typically between CAD 10,000 and CAD 90,000. For outside funding, see our guide to Canada scholarships 2026.
A Worked Example: What an MBA in Canada for Indian Students Really Costs
Let us build one budget for an MBA in Canada for Indian students together. The tuition and IRCC figures are real at the time of writing. The living cost, travel and exchange rate lines are illustrative assumptions to show the method, not quotes.
Scenario: a single student joining Schulich's full time MBA in Toronto in September 2027 and finishing in about 16 months.
| Line | Amount (CAD) | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition, whole programme | 124,019 | Schulich's estimated programme total for international students |
| Living costs, 16 months | 40,000 | Illustrative: CAD 2,500 a month. Rotman estimates CAD 23,856 to 38,756 for 12 months in Toronto |
| Flights and arrival | 2,500 | Illustrative |
| Total | 166,519 | About INR 1.03 crore at an illustrative rate of INR 62 per CAD |
What IRCC wants to see on paper. For a study permit, IRCC asks a single student outside Quebec to show CAD 23,448 a year for living costs (for applications on or after 1 September 2026), plus first year tuition and travel. Schulich bills CAD 31,005 per term across fall, winter and summer, so three terms come to CAD 93,015. Add the living figure and our illustrative CAD 2,500 for travel and your proof of funds for this scenario is about CAD 118,963.
Two lessons from this exercise. First, a scholarship of even CAD 20,000 changes the picture more than a cheaper apartment ever will. Second, most families fund an MBA in Canada for Indian students with a mix of savings and an education loan, so start the loan conversation the month you shortlist. Study Permit, Work Hours and PGWP After an MBA in Canada for Indian Students
Here is how the immigration side of an MBA in Canada for Indian students looks today, based on IRCC's pages.
- No PAL for most MBA students. The exemption covers degree granting master's programmes at public institutions from 1 January 2026. All five schools above are public universities.
- Quebec is different. For McGill you also need a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ), and Quebec sets its own funds figure.
- Working while you study. You can work off campus up to 24 hours a week during academic sessions and without an hourly limit during scheduled breaks.
- PGWP length. A master's programme of at least eight months can lead to a PGWP of up to three years, even if the programme was shorter than two years. That is why a 12 month Ivey MBA and a 16 month Sauder MBA can both lead to the same three year permit.
- Language for the PGWP. University graduates need CLB 7 in English or French in all four skills when they apply for the PGWP.
Our article on the Canada PGWP rules covers these conditions in more detail. Check the official page again when you graduate, because these rules have changed several times in recent years.
MBA vs PG Diploma vs Master of Management: Who This Is For and Not For
An MBA is not the only business route into Canada, and for many students it is the wrong one.
An MBA in Canada for Indian students is for you if:
- You have at least two, ideally three or more, years of full time work and a clear next role, such as moving from engineering into product management or consulting.
- Your GMAT or GRE is in the competitive range for your shortlist, or you are ready to prepare properly.
- Your family can support a total budget in the CAD 150,000 range without putting everything at risk.
It is not for you if:
- You are a fresh graduate. Look at pre experience degrees instead, such as the Master of Management programmes that Schulich and Rotman both list.
- Your main goal is the cheapest route to a Canadian work permit. A college postgraduate diploma costs far less, but it usually needs a PAL, its PGWP length generally follows the programme length, and diploma graduates can face field of study requirements that master's graduates do not.
- You want a general management title without a specific career change in mind. Experienced recruiters notice.
Applying directly is completely normal for an MBA in Canada for Indian students, and the school portals are clear. Where we help most is in the honest conversation before the application: is this the year, is this the right degree, and is the money well spent.
